On July 14th Paul and Linda McCartney wrote their old friend Chet Helm's (Chair for the Council of the Summer of Love) and said-

"Dear Chet, We are getting ready for the 30th Anniversary of the Summer of Love. We think it's a great idea and are really looking forward to all the celebrations. "

The McCartney's were introduced to the burgeoning San Francisco music scene at the height of the Summer of Love after the Beatles performed their last public concert at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966.

Helms who had hitchhiked to San Francisco with Janis Joplin and created Big Brother and The Holding Company, was a major player in the Summer of Love. Nearly every great 60's band played in Helms' fabled Avalon Ballroom.

When Helms called the McCartney's in London and told them of his plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Summer of Love in Golden Gate Park's Beach Chalet Meadows, October 12, 1997 they immediately offered their support in the form of a special Photo exhibit of Linda's photographs from her book "Sixties". Proceeds from the sale of her photographs will benefit October's free concert and celebration.

Mr. Helms wishes to thank Gladys Hansen, former City of San Francisco Archivist and founder of The Museum of the City of San Francisco, Summer of Love and Museum board member Bill McCarthy, McCartney exhibit curator Richard Hansen, Fahey/Klein Fine Art Photography Gallery in Los Angeles and Mary Louise Beecroft's Ship Art International for their kind donations of time and services.
